Exclusive Interview with Mr. Ajay Kumar, Secretary & Officiating MD of FDDI


1.  Are there any plans to introduce any new courses?
In the near future FDDI wish to launch two new academic programmes in the field of Digital Marketing & Luxury Retail. At FDDI we are also planning to launch Part Time/weekend programmes for Executives working in the concerned industry. These programmes will also benefit our Alumni who are already working on senior positions in the corporates.

2.  From which countries do you have international students at FDDI? Which courses do they usually opt for?

Yes we have students from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Nepal and Bangladesh. One batch of students from Philippines also attained Training from FDDI.
Further, FDDI provided overseas training & consultancies in the following countries, Nepal , Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Ethiopia, Botswana.

Our ongoing International Projects include :

·  Footwear industry benchmarking programme at Ethiopia
· Twining programme at LLPTI, Ethiopia – Training the trainers, Developing curriculum and Designing customized programmes based on the need of the industry.
·  Six months technical training programme in Leather incubator of LEA at Botswana for entrepreneur  development.
·   Productivity development programme at Bangladesh.
·  Master Service Agreement with NIKE Inc. USA for training of technical staff serving various domains across the globe.
3.  How does FDDI ensure proper placements for the students?

The role of the Corporate and Public Relations has been changing with continuous expansion of FDDI and with increasing number of Centres and students across all FDDI campuses.
In order to maintain transparency and to ensure adherence to the policies and for proper administration, the roles and responsibilities have been de-centralized at two levels that is overall Head Office CORPORATE AND PUBLIC RELATIONS level and Regional CORPORATE AND PUBLIC RELATIONS level.  There are teams at all campus levels which maintain the students and company data for placements and internships and reports to the head office.
All campuses also participate in mass recruitment drives held at NOIDA and Chennai during bulk hiring so that our students get equal opportunities in sitting for all big brands. FDDI has made it's presence and branding within the industry with most of the alumni at topmost positions that the companies have become regular recruiters with FDDI. We have 100% placement record and strive for the higher packages and profiles for our students. Reputed companies like Reliance( Brands and Retail), Woodland, Landmark, Major Brands, Red Tape, Mirza, Globus, Pantaloons, Bata, Tata, Tommy Hilfiger etc vy for the initial slot for screening of the student

4.  Do you also rope in some experts from abroad to train students in various aspects of footwear design?

The Institute's strong alliance with leading international institution / organization such as The University of Northampton, UK, LDT, Nagold-Germany, ARS Sutoria-Italy, University of Pirmasens & PFI-Germany etc. ensures international level of training in the campus and extends the scope of Student / Faculty exchange programme.

5.  What is the USP of FDDI across the country?

6.  What is your vision for FDDI five years from now?

·  To retain the premier position globally in Leather Goods, Apparels, Fashion Footwear & Footwear Retailing.
·  To ensure International Standardized Training to 5,000 high end professionals by the year 2016-17  & target to train 10,000 high end professionals (technocrats, designers, managers, merchandiser) by the year 2021-22 through the campuses.
·  To train 2 Lacs fresh workers (unemployed youth) per year and induct them in the Industry.
·  To seek the status of Institute of National Importance for FDDI for value addition in the programs conducted.
